On Monday 25th June, the three schools which have korfball training in Wales were brought together at the STAR Centre in Splott, Cardiff to play friendly matches. It was the first time that Moorland Primary, Roath Park Primary and Tyn-Y-Wern Primary played competitive korfball matches outside of their school's training sessions.

Each school brought two teams who played in a round robbin format. All teams played two matches but some children - who played in both of their school's teams - played longer. Each match was a short 10 minutes to get the children involved and avoid long waiting times on the side.

Roath Park Primary started the afternoon with a bang, their A & B teams winning each of their matches. When faced against Moorland Primary however, the game ended in a nill-nill tie. It wasn't until the end of the afternoon when Tyn-Y-Wern Primary played Moorland Primary that the second and third positions were determined, with Tyn-Y-Wern narowly edging into second.

As the winning school, Roath Park Primary got to keep the Trophy which was presented to them on the day. Each school had to select a 'Best Male' and a 'Best Female' from another school. Those selected got to take a medal home. Finally, each child who attended received a certificate to remember the day's activities.

The emphasis of the day was to have the children enjoy the afternoon and take part in korfball activities. Our thanks goes to all those involved at teaching korfball to kids of Moorland, Roath Park and Tyn-Y-Wern Primary schools, the parents who came down to watch/supervise and to the IKF for the grant which allowed the bus and court to be booked. Without all of these, the day would not have happened.

As the first official Junior korfball tournament held in Wales, this is a major big step forward to more Junior events being held regularly in Wales.
