Welsh Championship

Qualification event for the IKF Europa Cup

The Welsh Cup is the ultimate challenge event in Wales. It is split into two tiers, Championship and Trophy.

The Championship is contested by the four highest ranked teams. Trophy is an open event for all other teams. Matches are seeded based on final league positions. The contest will determine the national champion of Wales, who will then be eligible to participate in the IKF Europa Cup.

The Welsh Cup was first organised as a gala event only for first teams. This ran from 2008-14 until it was scrapped in favour of league standings. This format encountered difficulties as teams compete in different leagues and the Welsh Cup was reintroduced, with the addition of the Trophy tier, to allow all teams in Wales to compete.
